Shutter Speed

Shutter speed is when the lense is wider which allows more light to come in. I didn't take any of these pictures so I took some off the internet. In all of them, the setting is very dark. My favorite picture is the one of the freeway. Adjusting the shutter speed makes the picture come out so beautiful and since this, I try to take more pictures at night.

Surrealism: "Pond"

I'm going to analyze the photo above. I belive the carrots represent something out of place, since they don't belong in the photo. The 2 people in the boat are obviously good friends.They're very close together which shows this. They are dependent on each other which is why they are in the dream together. The boat represents being lost and roaming aimlessly. The dark sky is a blueish purple. The colors show sadness or desperation.

Final Artist Statement

I took photography as a senior this year. I very much enjoyed this class and the things I learned this year I’ll use for the rest of my life to make the memories I capture in my photos easier on the eyes. I was most successful in the different techniques of photography such as extreme angles and the rule of thirds. I think I did very well editing my photos too. I think people are most talented in things they enjoy and I enjoyed taking and editing photos. What I struggled with most was posting the photos. I prefer explaining face to face my work and why I did what I did. I do like for people to see my “art” but the hassle of writing it down bothers me. It’s not that I don’t like to write, I love it; it’s just a bother to me. In the future I think I can improve on is holding back. I love photography but I catch myself not letting go before I start on a project. It’s hard for me to be completely open but I know that if I try, I’ll b able to express myself completely. My favorite thing I learned in this class was creating something in Photoshop. I enjoyed coming up with my own idea and bringing it to life. I hope to take graphic design classes in college so hopefully, I’ll use this more in my life.
I connected the most with my social issue project. It’s such a personal thing to me and I really did put my whole heart into it. Since it is my friend who the picture is dedicated to, I really wanted to do a good job. What I’ve been through and the people I’ve met have made me who I am. I don’t have a negative perspective on the world or the people in it so all my art would be very happy! Out of all the artists we studied this year, the one I relate to most is Leibovitz. She takes things that everyone is very familiar with and people everyone knows and puts her own view of it in a photo. That’s what I do in my life. I try to imagine everything the way I’d do it. The most meaningful project I’ve done is my quilt. I didn’t complete them but the ones I did, I put all I could into them. It was a reflection of me and I wanted to show as much as I could.

Blowout and Panning

The blowout effect was created by raising the ISO in my camera to the highest option. This did work very well, but another simpler way to take a blowout picture is by using metering. By taking the light from a bright source, that light would be caputred and stayed in with the picture you want to take. Panning is when you take a picture of something that's moving. In a panning photograph, everything but the subject should be blurry. I couldn't find my panning pictures so I found one from the internet. For the pictures I took, I didn't really understand how to do it so mine didn't come out this way at all. Maybe when I figure it out, I can take better panning pictures.

Aperture

Aperture, in other words, is the pupil of the camera. The bigger it is, the wider you can see but comes out blurry the farther you try to see. The smaller it is, the clearer you can see at a distance.

The first picture has a small aperture which makes everything but the subject blurry. The second has a large aperture which makes the whole photo have a soft feel to it.

Flash

Flash has it's pros and cons. The good thing about using flash is that it makes sure the photo doesn't come out blurry. Flash has a way of "freezing time" which captures the moment you want, not whatever comes out. Flash also makes the picture bright and visible. The cons of flash is that it could drain the picture of the natural light. Anything that makes light disapears because the flash of the camera cancels it out, so to speak.
Flash is good to use when your outside but there's still shadows. Or when your at a sporting event. The players are moving quick and with flash you catch them without the blur. Flash wouldnt be good at a birthday party when they're blowing out the candles or during a light show for example.
The picture I used is better without flash because the flash would have taken away the lights in the background. The lights make the picture such an interesting portrait of the DJ.

ART SHOW "Forever"

This photo is in memory to my friend who was killed, Melissa Vigil. The assignment was to express a social issue that is important to me. The social issue I was trying to express was gang violence. More and more innocent people are killed by senseless gang violence and my friend was taken from her family and friends for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
I had Melissa's best friend be the model for this picture. Her tattoo was the emphasis because it was a tattoo she got in her memory. She looks sad in the picture because even though it's been almost 2 years, she'll never be the same. The words "Your mistake is my forever" is me speaking for Melissa. Although the man didn't mean to shoot her, the mistake is permanent and Melissa can never come back.

Graduation Program

I think the thing that made my design better was the shadows of the kids. Some are jumping and it gives off the happiness and excitement to graduate. Personally, that's how I feel about finally graduating! I like my design the way it is. Graphic design was way easier than I thought. It looks like it's hard to get a grasp on but it's just little tricks to make something more than what it is. The most important part of graphic design is imagination. Without imagination, you have no inspiration and the design you want will never come out right. Graphic design plays a huge roll in society. It's used in basically every type of advertisment.

Si Se Puede &Academic Letter Programs

After looking at everyone else's programs I saw how mine were different. I tried to stay away from purple and silver as much as I could unless I didn't have any other ideas. Although I'm proud of what I did, I still think I could have tried more. The one I struggled more was with the Academic Letter. I wanted it to be completely different from everyone else's and I made the mistake of now knowing where to start.
